Cyber security is a growing concern. Data Privacy Day is observed every January 28 as a reminder to protect and safeguard private data. Millions of people are unaware of and uninformed about how their personal information is being used, collected or shared in our digital society. Here are 7 simple cyber security tips to help you keep your data secure while you are using the internet.

When making online purchases always look for the lock symbol in the upper left corner of your address bar.

Never save your usernames and passwords to your browser as they can be stolen easily.

Try not to access sites through links or attachments, instead manually typing it is always more secure.

If a website forces a pop up window to appear do not respond or click on it, Instead close it from your task manager using (Ctrl + Alt +Delete).

It's good practice to never reuse the same passwords so that in the event of an attack the hacker does get access to more than one account.

Update your applications as much as possible to ensure you have the latest security patches.

Make periodic backups of the data on your computer so if a worst case scenario happens you can recover it with minimal loss.
